As lockdown drags on and we slowly edge closer to the spring season, I thought it was only fitting that we take a dive into the do’s and don’ts when developing your wardrobe or revamping it. Never has there been a more perfect time to update and innovate your wardrobe, something to keep you busy in this tedious time.

If you’re looking to add to your wardrobe, while trying to keep the cost low I suggest looking for items that suit/match at least four items currently in your wardrobe. Not only does this cut down on overloading your clothing but this also creates four new looks by simply adding one new item. Being able to mix and match is a way of maximising your clothing options. However, if you are looking to develop your style, somethings to avoid is just buying new items for the sake of a discount or a sale. Unless you’ve been waiting for something in particular or something that you can see going with several pieces currently in your wardrobe, then try avoiding buying just because its discounted. While trying to develop your clothing make sure you take time to really research some different brands that are a bit more out of your comfort zone, this helps to keep your wardrobe modern and gets you out of your usual ways. This stops you getting into a style rut. As well as finding new brands, you should definitely explore small businesses, which helps you find unique pieces. As well as this it’s a wiser way to spend your money instead of funding the usual high street brands. If you are adding a few new additions to your wardrobe make sure for every piece you buy that you also get rid of an item, to help really upgrade and cut down you’re clothing. Give to charity shops, recycle or sell are all beneficial ways to dispose.

If you are trying to save money but are looking to upgrade your style, upcycling is the best possible option and can be so easily done. If you have old, stained clothes or some items that have lost its original fresh colour, then upcycling can help reinvent them. If you are looking for current trends to feel your wardrobe, then tie-dye is the way to upcycle. One of the biggest selling points in loungewear at the moment and is slowly grasping all different clothes. So if you are looking for a vibrant and trendy look for the spring season than try tie-dying some of your old clothes and get them ready. Another way to upgrade your clothes is by simply using clothing dye and changing some items colour completely. If you’re looking to add a more minimalist aesthetic aim to use colours such as browns, greens and white, which is the biggest trend of 2021 so far. Not only is upcycling a cheap way to upgrade your wardrobe but it’s also a sustainable option.

Until next Monday try to stay positive and take time to upgrade your style by adding a few new items or simply spend some time planning the clothes you chose to upcycle and how you chose to.
