As we head into the New year, more uncertain than ever and back into another lockdown. I believe it has never been more essential to take this time to really take care of yourself in every way possible. A self-care lockdown is what we need. There are many aspects to consider when focusing on one’s self, but the two most important are mental health and physical health.
For myself this next lockdown entails me focusing on myself in every way I can. I plan to go out for at least one walk a day, being around nature is good even though cold and wet outside, it is still good for us. It’s good to go out and clear your mind and to just simply allow yourself sometime alone, away from the confinements which you are living in.
I’m personally taking this time to focus on my future as well, by spending my time applying to uni’s and apprenticeships and even arranging my travels. For me this helps with my anxiety and makes me feel a little more in control of my life. However, I do still plan to have my lazy days, allow myself to relax and not feel guilty about it, we’re only human and we need to take time out to relax fully.
As far as mental and physical health goes you can do many things in order to help both. Simply making sure you get your five a day is not just good for your body but also your mind, a healthy diet helps us to feel more positive and energised. I also believe that on top of physical exercise we should also continue to exercise the brain. Whether this is finally taken time to read books you’ve been wanting to but never having the chance, or writing even if it’s just in a dairy, or you can simply challenge your brain by playing board games.
One of my favourite parts of self-care is of course down to my skin care routine, which I plan to religiously stick to in lockdown. Personally, for me I constantly suffer from dry skin especially in this weather and as well as this I tend to suffer from puffiness first thing in the morning. For my skin its essential for me to keep all my skin care products in the fridge, whether you have your own mini fridge like this one from Urban Outfitters
Click the link for the Minifridge.
or just using your normal fridge. I believe this is vital it helps control puffiness and really wakes you up first thing in the morning. My Top five products within my fridge are Revolutions warming gel mask, this is my go-to when I’m suffering with dry skin, it is so hydrating and only needed twice a week which means it lasts really long therefore making sure you’re getting your money’s worth. It is also vegan and cruelty free. Another go to product I use is aloe hydrogel eye patches, anything with aloe vera in it I recommend I believe it is one of the best natural products for your skin. Especially these eye patches they help with my bags and puffy eyes and are calming on my skin. For my cleanser I use Cerave hydrating cleanser, I love all of Cerave products, they are developed by dermatologists so are really reliable products and are so amazing for sensitive skin. As well as this I obviously use the Cerave moisturiser as my main aim is to hydrate my skin. Finally, to finish of my skin care I
use a roller
which has been left in the fridge which again helps with puffiness and helps with blood circulation. I would recommend all of these products for anyone suffering with dry skin or puffiness.
The most important thing at the moment though is to simply stay safe and focus on yourself. Have a great week and stay positive.
