As we finally wave goodbye to cold and dreary January, we welcome February and all it has to offer. Which seems to bring new and exciting trends.
A modern definition of eclecticism is the latest’s trend of 2021. A mix and match of pattern, material and texture. The perfect time for this latest trend is in this bleak time, as it embodies the deriving ideas of style or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources, that can bring excitement into the dullest times. The contrast of different textures and vibrant colours creates an eccentric fashion statement, whilst still staying incredibly stylish at the same time. The aim of an eclectic style is putting together clothes and accessories that normally wouldn’t work together, however manages to work and stand out. Similarly, February also has a vibrant approach to bags, this idea of a candy shop, confection-coloured bags for everyday essentials, ranging from pinks, purples and greens. All the latest’s trends express a vibrant and outgoing approach which I believe reflects what the world is in need of at this moment, something fun and exciting in contrast to our current lives. Even mismatched and misaligned stripes is the seasons fastest growing trend, because our lives are a bit mismatched at this point so why not try and make it exciting and a fashion statement.
However in contrast to this outburst of colour there is this idea of cool, calm & collected, as February carries on the minimalist aesthetic through head to toe white. This idea of different whites with shades of ivory, cream to create, a palette of off-whites. Another trend that is just in and aligning with the minimalist aesthetic is the humble cardigan, in colours such as browns, creams and greys giving of a stylish chic relaxing vibe. And then there is this idea practical fashion, the latest being belts with a benefit.
Seen as the number one fashion accessory, staying fashionable whilst being practical. Although in contrast to the vibrant trends I mention earlier, I still believe that these minimalist trends are just as relevant in reflecting these times, as although some people are seeking excitement others are seeking security, something that is safer and more reliable.
